From May to September Waverley provides ponies for The Offchurch Bury Polo Club. Chukkas are played every Tuesday and Thursday evening, Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Instructional chukkas are held every Wednesday and Friday evening and lessons are available any day of the week, by appointment.

In the winter the polo moves back to Waverley and is played in one of the two arenas there depending upon the weather and light. Arena polo is a very useful way of teaching both people and horses who are new to the sport and is also a lot of fun.

There are over thirty polo ponies available for lessons or to hire for chukkas and tournaments at Offchurch Bury and elsewhere.


Polo tuition is available for all levels of expertise on an individual, group or clinic basis.

You don't have to be an experienced horseman to learn to play Polo but you certainly will become one as you progress in this captivating game. Hitting the ball and controlling your pony are only two aspects of this multifaceted sport. A good knowledge of team tactics and an instinctive understanding of the rules are equally, if not more, important.

All you need to start off are a pair of riding boots and a riding hard hat. A thin pair of gloves is also recommended.

As Polo is intrinsically a team sport, group lessons are both valuable and fun. Individual lessons for improving hitting and riding skills are also worthwhile.

Stoneleigh Park Polo school creates groups from individual enquiries or takes group bookings and provides ponies, sticks, balls, expertise and catering facilities where appropriate. However, the most effective way to grasp the somewhat complicated ethos of Polo, is to immerse yourself in the sport with a weekend clinic.
